Marlene is one of Trinidad’s luminaries who have just remained backstage all her life in Trinidad. The entirety of her hard work in the entertainment industry was basically left untold until she came into the spot light in New York City with her initial and recent single release of “ Jah put a Hand.”
Marlene also known as Sexy Marlene is Toco born Trinidadian who grew up in Princes Town. She successfully completed her academic life. She started at New Grant Government and completed her secondary schooling at St.Stephen’s College. After which, she began to work with her parents at their Singer Home Centre stores but soon realized that she was not cut out for there. The next option that she encountered was teaching, and without a doubt she launched for her new career. Marlene was very electrified and enthusiastic about being an educator. She was always quiet and reserved, however, when it came to creative and performing arts, it was the opposite. She would always write poetry about the things occurring in and around her life and quickly realized that it was a medium to express how she felt.
At the school, she attended the creative and performing arts workshop whereby her aesthetic quality initiated and she began writing and training children in various art forms of rapso, calypso, monologue, robber talking and everything carnival. She later moved on to Corinth Teacher’s College where she found a playground to showcase her talents. One of Marlene’s greatest achievements was graduating and becoming a Special Education teacher whereby she assisted students with special needs to develop academically through the art forms.
As time elapsed, the young individual felt as though she was limited. She urged to offer a lot more to the world. She wanted to expand her horizon internationally. She was persistent to move on to bigger and brighter prospects.
Today, the relentless young woman followed her dreams and determination. She comfortably lives in New York City and has established very well in the entertainment industry. She composed her song and enthusiastically moved on and put melody and tune into it. Marlene has released her single “ Jah put a Hand” which is currently being aired on local radio stations and can be seen via the internet. She enjoys writing to impose a difference in the lives of many particularly the youths in today’s world. Her message is put forth via her song about the struggles of life as well as the tribulation and hardships. She proposes that the manner in which the situation should be dealt would be none of guns and war, but instead harmony, love, support and spiritual values. She desires to highlight the social ills and to inculcate moral and divine values to young people in the hope of guiding them in conscious living and appropriate decision making. Her major objective is to ascertain a thriving and vivid generation to come. She usually writes about the issues that burn her soul and social harms: poverty, abortion, drug abuse, violence and crimes. Regarded as a messenger, she seeks out all listeners because there is always a life lesson to be learnt. Caribbean music is Marlene’s favorite. However, she writes hip hop, gothic, trance, R&B, pop, jazz and a combination of all.
Trinidad’s triumphant daughter would always be a special education teacher, however, by being both a singer and writer she admits that she can be deemed as a role model to those who have talent but is afraid to be exhibited. Personally, her role models are the great carnival icons, her teachers who made it possible and most importantly her dad who taught her the finest characteristic of being the best in all that she aspires. With great positivity and fortitude, the young woman does not have any fears in the music world. She admits that God is with her at all times, she also added that if she could do it…..so can anyone else. As long as you are determined, you can absolutely prosper without doubt.
Marlene regards music as a freedom of self and life, she describes it as a medium in which she leads and follow the disciplines of living. She further depicts it as a comfort zone to convey her thoughts and emotions. Simply she added, “Music is what I turn to when I want to be heard, it is my amour against negativity.” She believes that music is an innate part of who she really is.
This woman is definitely one of Trinidad’s as well as the Caribbean and out at large, internationally a shining star. In addition to being a qualified Special Education Teacher, a song writer plus a singer, she also acquires another talent of jewelry designing. The artistic Marlene works with precious and semi-precious gem stones. She also has a personal line displayed for purchasing her beautiful and unique masterpieces. A well rounded individual is the signature of Marlene.
Sexy Marlene highly acknowledges Wyclef Jean and Jack Knights from Bad Boys Records for opening up the doors and also coaching her in the music industry. She extends great gratitude to international soca DJ Tony Tempo for his unconditional support and guidance throughout her accomplishment. Special thanks are also awarded to Teddy Ranks and A1 Digital Studio for all their support and assistance. Marlene would also like to express great recognition to Kevin Khan for his splendid photography. Last but not least, appreciation is extended to Big Rich and the Pungalunks Factory for being an extraordinary mentor and enthusiast.
The matured woman still continues to aspire in her life. She does not consider her life to be directed with a limiting factor. She is unbolted for suggestions and is resolute to make a distinction in today’s world. Marlene proves that we have one life and in this journey, nothing would be in her way to prosper. She has plans for taking new and exciting challenges that are brought before her. She also wants to lend a hand to those who are struggling in addition to promoting new talents. Her major objective is to complete 3 albums in reggae, soca and R&B.
The effervescent song star Sexy Marlene, is on her second single to be released very soon. It is entitled “Take ah Life.” This single philosophically depicts emotional rendition of teenage pregnancy and abortion. A very powerful message is addressed to the young people.
I would definitely like to congratulate Marlene on all her improbable success and accomplishment in life thus far. Best wishes and infinite support is granted to you in all that you desire. We love you Trini sister, you have undeniably done us proud!
